eRX and the Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions

ePrescriptions, or more accurately Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions (ETP) provides for the timely, secure and consistent transfer of medication information between prescribers and dispensers, in order to:

  • Improve the quality and safety of medication provision
  • Improve efficiency, particularly in pharmacies
  • Reduce the potential for errors of transcription and/or interpretation
  • Build a technical foundation for improvements in the quality and safety of medication management

eRx provides secure and safe transmission of prescription information between doctors and pharmacists.

No new hardware or software is required for doctors or pharmacists to participate.

eRX functionality is available in Communicare v12.5 and above. Each clinician has to register with eRX (online registration) who then contact Communicare who will in turn contact you to ensure ETP is enabled on your system.
