The Introduction to Telehealth continuing professional development module provides physicians with the theoretical knowledge to successfully implement telehealth into clinical practise. The module covers clinical, legal, logistical and technical aspects of conducting consultations with patients using videoconferencing software. While the module is suitable for physicians who are new to telehealth, it also provides valuable information for physicians already using telehealth.
On completion of this module, physicians should be able to:
- Identify the main clinical, technical and contextual aspects of telehealth relevant to their practice;
- Make an initial assessment about the best way to introduce or expand telehealth services in their practice;
- Formulate an implementation plan for the introduction or expansion of telehealth services in their practice; and
- Conduct a safe and effective telehealth consultation.
This module will take approximately 4 hours to complete, not including the optional self-assessment items. Hours spent completing the module can be claimed as a continuing professional development activity through the RACP MyCPD program. Points can be claimed under Category 3: Self-Assessment Programs at 2 credits per hour. In addition, physicians who complete the module and then review their use of telehealth, for example undertaking patient satisfaction studies, peer review or a clinical audit, could record these CPD activities under Category 5: Practice Review and Appraisal at a rate of 3 credits per hour.
This module has been developed in partnership with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) with input from The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) Telehealth Working Group and RACP Telehealth Continuing Professional Development Reference Group.
To access the module, RACP Fellows will complete the module on Rural and Remote Medical Education Online (RRMEO). Click here to start the RACGP module.
